The SDMEA works to strengthen and sustain municipal utilities by working on their behalf with legislative and regulatory decision makers at the state, regional and federal levels. The SDMEA takes an active role in legislative and regulatory matters and has increased the visibility and standing of municipal utilities in these processes. The SDMEA makes every effort to keep its members informed and connected to the issues and decisions that are being made and will affect their utility operations both now and into the future.
The South Dakota Municipal Electric Association legislative team represents the issues of municipal electric utilities on a variety of state legislative issues in Pierre. Municipal utilities across the state speak with a common and united voice through their membership in the SDMEA.
